Windows 95 Agent
----------------
Using the Backup Exec Windows 95 agent in a token-ring/ethernet
network environment:
Backup Exec for NetWare Version 7.01 resolves the problem
of losing connections when performing backups of a Windows
95 workstation across a token-ring/ethernet bridge.
If both the Windows 95 agent and the backup server are on
the same type of network (both on token-ring or both on
ethernet) then no additional steps are required for the
Windows 95 agent to function properly.
However, if the backup server is on an ethernet network
which uses a network bridge to backup workstations on the
token-ring network, then you must modify the value of the
"GRFS_max_buffer_size" option within the backup server's
options file (BESRVR.CFG). You should set the value
of this option to "240".
Example: GRFS_max_buffer_size = 240
No steps are required if the backup server is on the
token-ring network and the Windows 95 agent is on the
ethernet network.
Using the agent on slower (386/25) machines:
On slower Win95 machines (this has been observed on 386/25's),
a restore connection may be lost because of buffer overruns in
the Win95 machine's SPX protocol stack. This has been observed
with Backup Exec for NetWare, but may also happen with Backup
Exec for Windows NT. A workaround is to reduce the GRFS maximum
buffer size. By default the products default to a 32KB buffer
size. An 8KB buffer size seems to work fine for a 386/25.
Here's how to change this value:
Backup Exec for Windows NT 6.x:
Bring up REGEDT32 and select
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcada\Backup Exec\Backup Engine\MaxBufferSize.
Double click on it and change the value to 8192 decimal or 2000
hexadecimal.
Backup Exec for NetWare 5.x:
Edit SYS:BKUPEXEC\BEMGR.CFG and change the
GRFS_max_buffer_size to this:
GRFS_max_buffer_size = 2030
Backup Exec for NetWare 7.x:
Edit SYS:BKUPEXEC\BESRVR.CFG and change the
GRFS_max_buffer_size to this:
GRFS_max_buffer_size = 2030
Enhanced Windows 95 Agent
-------------------------
An enhanced version of the Backup Exec Windows 95 agent is
provided in this release. An option to display an agent status
and statistics window is included in the enhanced agent.
Errors Restoring the Windows 95 Registry
----------------------------------------
If you are getting the message 'Error restoring "Extended Attribute"
information for directory \', this release of the Backup Exec
Windows 95 agent will address the problem. Install this release
and retry your restore.
